Bio: John Waterbury, the first president to reside in Beirut since 1984, came to AUB as a world-renowned political economist specializing in developing countries, with a special focus on the Middle East. He served as president from 1998 to 2008 with a mission to improve academic and physical health at the university and diversity the student body, faculty ranks, and senior administration.
