Synopsis: 'In the Time of the Apricots' "ديوان "في المشمش is a collection of poems by Carol Sansour. The Palestinian poet calls herself post-gender, post-national. The book in Arabic, English and French.
"In her acclaimed sequence of image-intense texts, ‘In the Time of the Apricots’, Carol Sansour makes no distinction between verse and prose, or literary and vernacular registers of the language. In order to present herself, her true individual self as a human being and a woman who happens to be Palestinian, she conflates two distinct concepts – the nation, and the homeland – underlining the conflict between them, which free verse glosses over, and so evoking a gritty and credible place where people live unhindered by ideology or angst… Hers is a post-national discourse of belonging by necessity which, in its truth aesthetic, speaks more eloquently to the human condition than to any political agenda."
