What’s an afikra salon event?
It’s a salon-style gathering where members of the community present on cultural and historical topics they are curious about from the Arab world. The purpose of each evening is to bring together a community of like-minded individuals and have a fruitful conversation about things we don't know much about.
Who are the presenters?
afikra Community Presenters are members of the afikra Community who participated in our workshops and worked alongside our team of coaches to research a topic they have no expertise on.

Exploring Archiving: Kutub Zaman [afikra x Liwan]
Join our online event in collaboration with Liwan to discuss archiving techniques and processes with TypeAraby director Basma W Hamdy, graphic designer Zainab Alshibani & curator in residence at Qatar Museums Fire Station Gallery Hadeel Altayeb. The Liwan, Design Studios & Labs department at Qatar Museums assists with developing content, visuals and detailed plans for social media announcements. Additionally, they work on planning related events, programs and activities.

Workshop 1: Ideation & Curiosity Cultivation [afikra x Liwan]
afikra and Liwan invite you to participate in a three part workshop series based on afikra Curiosity pedagogy & Community Building Framework. This workshop series will provide an opportunity for participants to both engage their curiosity in the histories and cultures of the Arab world, connecting with each other, as well as contribute to the conversation by producing a presentation for the afikra x Liwan Showcase in March 2021.
